Holly at Bondi Beach - always
worthy of a picture opportunity!
** updates are in blue text - last
update Wednesday 21st June**
Wednesday 7th
Sheryl and her Mum are away out to see The Da
Vinci Code at the local pictures in Manly - its a homely wee place that
looks like a house that's been converted into a 2 screen cinema, and is
run by a wee family, and feels as if the man that takes your tickets runs
upstairs to turn the projector on! Holly and I had a laugh chasing each
other around the hoose, playing at spinny mastermind chairs, and hide and
seek in her wee princess house - which was great fun! Sheryls dad phoned
tonight - its good as he uses a cheap call company and it only costs
either 0.5p or 1p per minute. Got it from http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/
Anyway, got a
meeting at 7:30am tomorrow so early to bed tonight methinks!
Thursday 8th - My Dads
Birthday
Phoned Pa Noble on the way
to work on the ferry. After about 8 different disconnections, and hello?
hello? what? eh? hello? we manage to string together a fairly sensible
conversation wishing him a very happy birthday and distracting him from
doing some DIY in the hoose!
Friday 9th
Work over for three days -
its a holiday weekend here! Queen Birthday means we get Monday off. Picked
my tips for the World Cup and handed my 20 bucks to the company bookie! At
least we have a plasma screen up the work's kitchen (same layout for each
floor) which has digital
TV on it, so we can catch the results without having to stay up too
late....a lot of the games start at between 11pm and 1:30am over here, and we're
all well in bed by then!
Saturday 10th
Off to Coogee and Maroubra
beaches a wee drive, Holly, Jean, Sheryl and I. Nice wee day out, mixing
shops, with sand and sea, and a wee drive about some new places.
Saw a sign in a window,
which shows you the reach of The Record....
Gotta go,
Titanic is on the telly - something to watch for a change!
Sunday 11th
Went over to for
Sheryl and Jean to do some shopping and for me and wee Holly to take a
walk down to Darling Harbour to see the boats
and the jazz
festival.
Went past a pub full of
people, in for the International Beer and Wine Festival, which had Rick
Stein in as special guest - the place was mobbed full of clinking bottles
and chatter and it was only 3pm !! Later on we met up at 6pm for our
favourite Phillips Foote, for some BBQ steak. Then it was back down to
Darling Harbour for the fireworks.
Monday 12th
Sheryl's Mum's friend came
past this morning, and then later on we went out a wee run today for the
day, as it was a public holiday for the Queen's Birthday.
Holly looking out
to see from her toy ship in the swing park !
Came back in and had some
fish -n- chips from a place on the way home but we tried a different place
and it wasn't very nice. Jean goes home tomorrow :-( for the long trip
back home - this time via Bangkok and then London.
Tuesday 13th
After work, got the train
out to the airport to say cheerio in person to wee Jeanie. I don't know if
it gets any easier for them to part, but its not that long till she's due
back over, and the next time it will be for 10 weeks or so, so they will
get plenty of time together. Though I'll need to buy in more eggs for all
the omelettes I'll be making for breakfast!.
I was in a taxi behind this bus
the other day - gotta love the Australians for their sense of humuor!
Saturday 17th
Went to see some more
houses properly this time i.e. inside for a viewing. We're about half way
through our lease here at the apartment, and its time to ramp up the pace
a bit and really look seriously at getting a house to live in. Its quite
hard to be objective, as we're spoilt in the place we're in, and you've
got to realise you ain't gonna live this close to the beach again (at
least for a while ;-)
The view from our window down the
street!
Went up to a couple of
houses in Allambie Heights and also in Frenchs Forest. (Can always
remember Frenchs Forest from when we first looked at Australia from back
home, as it was where Dell Computers have its base - when I was looking up
for jobs etc). Would be funny if we ended up living there.
Sunday 18th - Fathers Day
UK
Can't believe we have this at the
bottom of our street!
Took Holly out a walk this
morning (the walkway goes past the picture above and below)
She was wrapped against the
sea breeze in her wee knitted cardigan that Jean did when she was here.
Lots of lovely yachts out in the harbour racing, which is always a
cracking sight to see (need to dig out a photo from the camera). Then the
big ferry comes in a booms its horn out to tell them to scram and let him
through! Went to see some houses again in the afternoon. Saw a few nice
ones. Went a walk around the areas parks and wee nature walks, with Holly
doing her usual smile and wave and everyone that goes past - wee charmer!
Gotta go and call Pa back home and wish him a very happy Father's Day - in
Australia its the first Sunday in September!
Wednesday 21st
Just heard on the news that
Nicole Kidman is getting married at the big house up on the hill from
here, pity Holly dropped the wee set of binoculars out the window the
other day and they smashed to bits on the ground (5 floors down!)... ah
well.....maybe we can see it from the window!
Friday 23rd
Somebody, ironically one of
the Scots in work, organised everyone to come in at 5am to watch the big
Australia v Croatia game. That was mad. Getting up at 4:00 for a 4:30
pickup! 5 people squeezed in a car for a quick nip over the bridge to work
(along with far too many other crazy people on the roads and in the
streets dressed in Socceroos strips and funny hats!)...The things I'll do
for a free roll and egg at half-time!
Wednesday 28th
The best thing to report
about today (apart from a freebie lunch from a vendor!) was on the way
home on the ferry.... Saw what I thought was a couple of swimmers about 50
yards from the side of the boat...but then I realised it was actually a
school of dolphins making there way back in towards the city - must have
been a big night out at the Aquarium in Darling Harbour ;-)
