Sunday 21st

We went up a run to the Blue Mountains today, up to Leura village, and then Katoomba. Its just over  1000m above sea level. When we got in the car, the outside temperature gauge was reading 40 degrees, and by the time we got to the flat plains just before the mountains (where it is always a little hotter) it reached 42 degrees outside! Thankfully the air conditioning didn't overheat the car, like many others scattered by the roadside and we made it up the big hill to Leura, where it was a slightly more comfortable 35 degrees! Just what you need when you're having some devonshire scones - a wee cream tea up in the mountains!

Monday 22nd

Due to some bushfires 45 mins north of the city, at work there were some people that managed to get into the office okay on the train (as the F3 freeway was closed in both directions), but then during the afternoon they closed the train lines too, so it looked as though folk would be stranded in town, is there are not many side roads through the mountains that would get you past where the fires were...

No way home … the Ku-ring-gai fire closed the F3.

Tuesday 23rd

Hot by day and thunder and lightning at night! Out doing some gardening and in the twilight some bats flew over, that looked like cats with wings they were that big! You used to see them fly north out of the city when I was getting the ferry home to Manly, just as you passed the Opera House, just at twilight out came hoards of bats, like something from a Hammer House of Horrors movie! I suppose since we live directly north of the city, it might be the same bats, heading to the hills after a hard days hanging from the city belfries!

Home from home. Eastenders was on the telly earlier, and then the UKTV channel had a rerun of Ultimate Force - the SAS series with "Grant Mitchell" as the gaffer. Also, on quite a few nights we even get Midsomer Murders - nice bit of light entertainment to have a cup of tea and a chocolate digestive with!
