Monday 1st October
Start of bushfire season today ! and to mark the
occasion its been a whopping 35 degrees worth of dry heat which has been
like walking into a hair dryer all day! There's been a few bushfires today
already, but mostly started deliberately (by 11 year olds as it turned out
later!).
Although Holly liked the excitement of
helicopters hovering over head and nearly landing at the end of the street
(even although there was no fires anywhere near here - I wonder if they
were looking for someone "arsonisting" about :-)
Tuesday 2nd
Came home tonight to be greeted by our friendly
neighbourhood possum on our roof. Did I tell you about the possum? Well he
/ she has decided to sneak into the small roof section above the garage -
our very own possum squatter!
They are protected species, so you have to be
careful when you want to try and get them out, and to top if off, your not
allowed to release it more than 50 metres away from where you found it.
Therefore you have to be really good at stopping it getting back into your
roof again, as they probably just sit and watch you until you go away, and
sneak back in again!
They're cute little things, and don't do any
harm, but best to get it out soon anyway. The best way is apparently to
build it wee house so that it goes in there instead of your roof - a bit
like a big nesting box about 4 times the size you would make for a robin
or small bird.
